PHP Engineer

About the Role

• Are you ready to help launch the next big move in fintech? We’re looking for a Senior PHP Engineer to join a Mexico-based cross-functional team building the backend foundations for a new mobile finance product.
• In this role, you’ll work on scalable services, API design, automated testing, and modern deployment workflows for a high-impact fintech initiative. You’ll collaborate closely with product, Front End, and engineering teams to define MVP features, make technical decisions, and support a fast-growing product strategy.

About You

• You have strong hands-on experience with modern PHP development, ideally using PHP 8+.
• You enjoy solving complex technical challenges and designing scalable Back End solutions.
• You communicate technical ideas clearly with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders.
• You take ownership of your work and feel comfortable making decisions in dynamic environments.
• You have experience working with API contracts, event-driven systems, and modern DevOps pipelines.
• You enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams to build reliable, user-centered products.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop and maintain Back End services using PHP 8 and Symfony.
• Design scalable APIs and document expected behaviors for Front End and product teams.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define MVP features and technical priorities.
• Build reliable service integrations using internal platforms, shared services, and team insights.
• Implement automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, and functional tests.
• Contribute to CI/CD workflows, deployment processes, and monitoring practices.
• Participate in architectural discussions and help evaluate technical trade-offs.
• Improve code quality, performance, observability, and maintainability across Back End systems.

Technical Requirements

• Must-Haves
• 5+ years of experience developing Back End applications with PHP.
• Strong experience with PHP 8+ and Symfony or similar PHP frameworks.
• Experience designing and maintaining microservices-based architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
• Solid knowledge of automated testing tools and practices, including PHPUnit and Behat.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and version control workflows.
• Familiarity with GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, and monitoring tools such as Datadog.
• Experience defining, consuming, and maintaining API contracts.
• Nice-to-Haves
• Knowledge of Domain Driven Design and event sourcing.
• Experience with RabbitMQ or other message-driven systems.
• Familiarity with financial systems, banking platforms, or fintech products.
• Experience working in distributed or cross-functional product teams.
• Intermediate Spanish proficiency, B2 or higher.
