01 — Why Mexico
Decide whether Mexico belongs in your plan.
Mexico's advantage is operational leverage, not the lowest hourly rate. A buyer optimising purely for labor cost would rank Vietnam and India higher, and we would rather say so than argue a point we would lose. The three arguments below are the ones that survive scrutiny, and each rests on something you can check: a time zone, a compensation survey of 10,246 verified respondents, and engagements that are already running.
Seven to eight business hours of synchronous overlap with US Eastern business hours, year-round, on a 0–2 hour offset from US Central and Mountain. Design reviews, incident calls and planning happen live rather than in handoffs. Austin to Monterrey is one hour twenty nonstop, so being in the same room is a morning, not a trip.
Engineers at C2 English earn 2.08x those at B1, and the gap holds within every seniority band tested. That is a compensation structure shaped by a market where a significant share of demand comes from US-headquartered companies hiring for English-first communication. It also means the English requirement belongs in the requisition rather than in a late screening step, because it moves a band further than seniority does in several role families.
Q2 integrated 57 technology professionals in under nine months and reports compensation 40–50% below equivalent US salaries — roughly USD 600K over the initial nine months — alongside a 35% increase in product roadmap velocity. NetProtect grew a Guadalajara team from six people to forty and then moved it onto its own payroll. Pinterest built a 22-engineer team in twelve months. Each is a published case study, agreed with the client.
Pure hourly rate is not the argument, and a procurement exercise scored on rate alone will not land here. Nor is Mexico a market where Staff and Principal engineers are abundant — they exist, and the bands on this page show what they cost, but the search for them is a search, not a requisition you can fill from a pipeline. Teams that arrive expecting either of those things are the ones that leave. The organisations that do well here are the ones buying the same working day and a career ladder that already exists — and are willing to pay a market rate for them.
If that is the trade you want to make, the rest of this page prices it: who you can hire, what the market pays them, and what an engagement starts from.
02 — Market structure
Find the talent your next stage requires.
Whether you need a specialist or are planning a larger team, the starting point is the experience your business needs. Explore Mexico's engineering market and the talent pool CodersLink works with.
The two halves belong together: the first is reach, the second is the bar. Between them sits the instrument — a compensation survey of 10,246 verified respondents across 36 roles and 32 states, which is what makes every band on this page checkable rather than asserted.
INEGI, Estadísticas a propósito de las personas formadas en las ciencias de la computación y las TIC, comunicado 509/22, from the ENOE labour survey, second quarter of 2022, population aged 20 and over. The figure counts people trained in the field — a wider group than those working in it today, and a 2022 floor rather than a current count.
These two figures answer different questions and are not additive: one is the reach of the pool we work with, the other is how many people in the country trained in the field. Neither is a count of engineers available today, and we do not publish one, because no official source measures it.
03 — Proximity
Work through decisions in the same working day.
Design reviews, planning sessions, and technical discussions are easier to coordinate when your teams are online together. Seven to eight business hours of US-timezone overlap give Mexico-based engineers room to collaborate with your US team throughout much of the day.
Mexico has observed no daylight saving time since 2022, while the United States still moves twice a year — which is precisely what makes the offset shift by an hour. The seven-to-eight-hour range is that variation, stated rather than smoothed into a single number.
Scheduled nonstop service, read 8 September 2026. We publish the city pair and its duration, never a single range for a whole region: Texas and California are one to three hours apart, so they never share one.
| From | To | Nonstop |
|---|---|---|
| Austin | Monterrey | 1 h 20 |
| Houston | Monterrey | 1 h 35 |
| Dallas | Monterrey | 1 h 53 |
| Dallas | Mexico City | 2 h 41 |
| Los Angeles | Guadalajara | 3 h 22 |

| New York | Mexico City | 5 h 35 |
FlightConnections, scheduled nonstop service, read 8 September 2026. An offsite framing that follows the rule: “Monterrey is an hour and twenty minutes from Austin.”
Proximity gets you a working day. It does not tell you whether the talent is there, which is the question that decides the build. Three sections carry that weight, and each one names its source: City ecosystems narrows where to build; Senior talent depth answers the objection that Staff-level engineers do not exist here in volume, with the bands the market pays them; and Cost & compensation shows the one variable that moves a band further than seniority does.
04 — Cities
Find the right city for the team you want to build.
Your choice of location should reflect the roles you need, your budget, and how the team will work. Three ecosystems carry most enterprise deployments and they are good at different things — which is the point: the question is not which city ranks highest, but which constraint your engineering organisation can least afford to carry.
These are CodersLink criteria drawn from placement and retention history, not a ranking. The flight times are scheduled nonstop durations for the named city pairs.
Recommended starting hub for organisations scaling past 25 engineers.
The constraint it removes is absorbing growth. It is where we have taken a team from six people to forty and then handed it to the client's own payroll — the hardest thing a hub is ever asked to do, because it means hiring continues while the engineers who were there first change employer and stay. Los Angeles is three hours twenty-two nonstop and San Francisco four hours one, so a West Coast engineering leader can be in the room and home the same day.
Strongest fit for regulated industries and enterprise systems work.
The constraint it removes is distance from the people who sign off. It is the closest ecosystem to the US by flight, and by a wide margin: Austin one hour twenty, Houston one hour thirty-five, Dallas one hour fifty-three. When an audit, a customer escalation or a regulator puts someone on a plane, this is the hub where that costs a morning instead of a day — which is why it suits work reviewed by people outside the engineering organisation.
Suited to specialised R&D rather than volume hiring.
The constraint it removes is finding the rare profile at all. It is the deepest market for specialised and research-adjacent work, and the trade is that it is also the most competed: the same depth that makes a scarce role findable makes a volume cohort harder to assemble and to hold. Dallas is two hours forty-one, Chicago four hours seventeen, New York five hours thirty-five.
These are CodersLink criteria drawn from placement and retention history, not a ranking. This page does not score cities against one another: they are good at different things, and a composite would hide the only comparison that matters, which is the one against your own constraint. The flight times are scheduled nonstop durations for the named city pairs, and the Guadalajara engagement is a published client case study.
Narrowed it down to a city? The next block is who you can actually hire there, and what it costs.
Talk to CodersLink05 — Senior depth
Find engineers who can take ownership.
The objection this section answers is the one we hear most often, and it comes in two parts: whether engineers who can own architecture exist here in any depth, and whether they stay long enough to be worth finding. The first question the published dataset answers. The second one we answer with our own numbers, and we say plainly which is which.
Across the 10,246 verified respondents, the roles that carry architectural and ownership scope are not thin: Engineering Manager at a USD 4,956 median on 142 responses, Solution Architect at 4,904 on 291, Security Architect at 4,143, Site Reliability Engineer at 4,029 on 255. A market that pays those bands, at that sample, is one where the career ladder above senior already exists.
Across the engineers we place: eight years average seniority, fifteen per cent voluntary turnover, and an eighteen to twenty-four month average tenure. These are our standards rather than a market measurement, and we publish them as estimates because that is what they are. Selection runs against the Top 1% Standard, benchmarked to Silicon Valley — the bar is the reason the seniority figure holds, and the reason a search takes the time it takes.
Three vetted profiles in three to five business days for a standard role, five to ten for a specialised one, ten to fifteen for a scarce or niche profile. Architectural and ownership roles sit in the second and third tiers, not the first. Those are estimates, and the service level for your roles is agreed on the consultation and intake calls.
06 — Roles
Find the expertise your team is missing.
From backend and frontend development to data, AI, DevOps, and quality engineering, explore the roles that support your team's priorities. Compensation benchmarks across 36 technology roles can help you plan your next hires.
Median monthly net pay in USD, with the 25th-to-75th percentile range beside each one. Confidence is the report’s own label: High is reliable for benchmarking and budgeting, Moderate is usable with caution for directional budgeting, and Directional indicates a pattern to be read alongside other market signals. Every role is published regardless of its label. Sample counts describe observations in the survey — not availability, scarcity or hiring difficulty.

07 — Cost
Build a budget you can take to Finance.
Compare compensation by role, seniority, and English proficiency, then review CodersLink's starting rates. Together, these give you a clearer basis for deciding which hires fit your plan.
Salary benchmarks describe employee take-home pay. CodersLink rates describe the price of the service. Reading one as the other is the most common way a Mexico budget goes wrong. The three figures below are, in order: what moves a salary, what an engagement starts from, and what one client actually reported.
Market-wide English cut: C2 median USD 4,061 (n=1,276) against B1 USD 1,951 (n=998). The ladder is not monotonic — A2 sits above B1 — so 2.08x is the top of a range. It moves a band further than seniority does in several role families, which is why the English requirement belongs in the requisition rather than in a late screening step.
Rates vary by role and seniority. These are floors, not a rate card.
A US banking-as-a-service fintech in Texas, 500+ employees, building a Mexico engineering hub. Alongside the saving, a 35% increase in product roadmap velocity. Client-reported, against equivalent US salaries as the basis of comparison.
Starting rates, per engineer, per month, all-in. These are floors, not a rate card: there is no ceiling and no range, and the two lists below are never read as a grid. Where a role sits in both, the higher floor is the one that applies — a senior Data & AI engineer starts from $9,500, not $7,500. Your rate depends on seniority, stack, volume and term.
| By seniority | Starts from |
|---|---|
| Mid-level | $6,500 |
| Senior | $7,500 |
| Staff+ | $10,500 |
| By role family | Starts from |
|---|---|
| QA | $6,500 |
| Frontend | $7,500 |
| Product & Web Design | $7,500 |
| Backend & Full Stack | $8,500 |
| Mobile | $8,500 |
| DevOps & SRE | $9,000 |
| Data & AI | $9,500 |
For MESHubs, a dedicated engineering hub in Mexico without forming a legal entity, a standard 15% markup. Larger and longer engagements earn better terms.
What the rate covers if a hire does not work out: on Staff Augmentation, replacements are unlimited and free for the life of the engagement — no cap, no minimum tenure, no fee — and sourcing restarts within one business day.
This page carries no market-wide savings percentage: the cost argument rests on one engagement a reader can open, with the basis of comparison and the reporting party stated inside the claim.

A specialised team stood up in eight weeks, a data engineering team built through Staff Augmentation, a 22-engineer team over twelve months, and a Guadalajara team that grew from six people to forty and then moved onto the client's own payroll. That last one is the arc this partnership is built for, not an exception to it.

Know how your engagement will work.
Who employs the engineers? What happens if someone needs to be replaced? Where does the intellectual property end up? Replacements we can state without qualification, and we do below. Intellectual property, data residency, export controls and your own compliance chain are settled per engagement — we would rather scope those with you than publish a category-level answer that will not survive your procurement review.
No cap, no minimum tenure, no fee, for the life of the engagement — and sourcing restarts within one business day.
The scope that applies to your engagement is confirmed in the contract before signature — we would rather agree it with your counsel than publish a blanket term here.
13 — Methodology
Check every number on this page.
Review the sources, dates, and definitions behind the figures. Market benchmarks provide context for planning; case studies describe individual engagements; estimates depend on the assumptions shown. Every published figure has a row in the register below, with the source behind it. A figure without one is not published.
The compensation dataset. A survey of technology professionals working in Mexico, validated response by response, covering 36 roles across 32 states. Every salary figure on this page is a direct read of it — a median, with the number of responses behind it stated next to the figure.
Ecosystem selection. Where this page recommends a city, the recommendation is a CodersLink criterion drawn from placement and retention history — not a measured market variable, and labelled as a criterion wherever it appears.
Rates and salaries are different numbers. Salary benchmarks describe what an engineer takes home. Rates describe what an engagement costs. This page never presents one as the other, and never derives a saving percentage from either.
What gets published. Market benchmarks give context for planning. Case studies describe one engagement each and are not projections. Estimates depend on the assumptions shown. A figure without a source in the table below does not go on this page.
Reviewed quarterly. Figures carrying an expiry are re-verified before that date or withdrawn.
